Volunteers on the field have lots to say. But they are often practitioners, engineers, medical, and they do not necessarily know how to tailor their language for specific audiences.
UNDP and the GEF launched a community based adaptation programme to climate change that later won a global competition on key volunteer-driven environmental initiatives.
Our mandate included gathering documentation of a world workshop coming from Namibia, Bolivia, Jamaica, Morocco, Samoa and others and transform it in briefs and a manual - not the eternal but short-lived workshop report.
Translating this content whilst keeping it close enough to the actual operational work so as not to add another layer of disinfected language was a real challenge. The result has been published on UNDP website as part of the global communication agenda on climate change.
